Training day for new maths support tutors – 11th October 2016

Will your maths support centre be employing new tutors this year? For example, postgrad students or existing lecturers who are new to the practice of maths support in HE?

The sigma Network is offering a FREE one-day training event for new maths support tutors on Tuesday 11th October 2016, at King’s College London.

This training is based on a well-established package developed by sigma and successfully delivered many times in recent years. The indicative content of the day will be:

10.00   Arrive. Coffee.
10.30   Introductions. Aims of the day.
11.00   Maths support – what is it, why do we need it , how does it differ from traditional teaching?
11.45   Problem solving sessions. Role play.
12.30   Principles of maths support – dos and don’ts
13.00   Lunch
13.30   The special case of statistics support
14.00   Dealing with challenging situations.
15.00   Resources available for maths support centres
15.30   Q & A. Coffee and networking
