sigma Statistics Training – 2 & 3 December

The Midlands regional hub of sigma is running a free training event at the University of Northampton on the 2nd and 3rd of December 2014 which is aimed at tutors who would like to improve their statistics knowledge for working within a Maths Support Centre setting. The sessions will be delivered by statistics support practitioners from the sigma network.

The session on day 1 is entitled ‘Statistics for Mathematicians’; the aim of this session is to train tutors to help students coming into Maths Support Centres with statistics questions and is ideal for new support centre staff who have a mathematical rather than statistical background. The session on day 2 is entitled ‘SPSS Bootcamp’ and is aimed at maths support tutors who have some statistical understanding but need to learn SPSS more or less from scratch. Lunch will be provided on both days. Either or both sessions may be attended. For more information as to what will be covered, click here.

Overnight accommodation is available at the University of Northampton on the nights of the 1st and 2nd December at a cost of £51 for a standard room and £66.45 for a superior room, both including breakfast. sigma may be able to assist with the cost of accommodation and transport in cases of hardship if your institution is in England and is unable to cover this. NOTE THAT ACCOMODATION BOOKING MUST BE MADE BY THE 1 NOVEMBER 2014.

To book onto one or both sessions, or if you have questions, email Ruth Fairclough r.fairclough@wlv.ac.uk indicating which session(s) you would like to attend and any specific dietary requirements. If you require overnight accommodation please indicate this at the time of booking and state whether you wish to apply for any financial assistance for travel and/or accommodation. Priority will be given to those representing institutions from the Midlands area.
